Secure Online Shopping

Online security is very important to us. We have implemented state-of-the art protocols to ensure that your information is safe. Any page on our site that asks for personal information will transmit that information using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology, which ensures that your data is strongly encrypted and protected from theft or misuse.

  • Generally when you are on secure pages, the browser will show a lock icon in the lower right hand side of the browser. Clicking on this icon will bring up a Certificate window which will show that the security certificate is issued to xsgear.ca and the name of the issuer.
  • You can also look in the address bar at the top of the browser window. Before the name of the site (in our case, www.xsgear.ca) you should see this prefix: https://. Thus, on secure pages within our site the address should always start like this: https://www.xsgear.ca/. This ensures that your data is being transmitted over a secure connection.
  • You can get detailed connection protocol information by selecting File from the browser menu, then Properties, (or on a Windows PC system you can additionally right click with your mouse in the page area you wish to examine and select Properties from the menu). This will bring up the properties window for the page you are viewing. On a secure page you should see a connection similiar to this:
Connection: SSL 3.0, RC4 with 128 bit encryption (High); RSA with 1024 bit exchange
This tells you that your data is being encrypted with strong encryption before transmission over the internet.

Important security notice for our Quixtar Partner Store customers

Due to the fact that our site opens in a frame when accessed through the Quixtar site, the lock icon and https:// prefix do not appear in the browser window. This is because the browser is accessing security info for the parent frame, which is a Quixtar webpage, not an XSGEAR webpage.

Rest assured that your connection is still secure and you can verify this by using the method we listed above:

Select File from the browser menu, then Properties or Right Click with your mouse, select Properties.

Logging Out

If you are using a public computer, you will want to log off, or sign out, before you leave the terminal. This will ensure that nobody else can view or access your personal information on that computer. In general closing all browser windows that you used for accessing xsgear.ca will automatically end your session. You can also manually log off by clicking 'My Account' and then clicking 'I want to Logout'. This will end your session without closing the browser window. You can then continue to browse the XSGEAR website or any other website. If you want to access secure areas of xsgear.ca you will need to again login with your email address and password.
